John McGregor
Music Librarian & Stage Manager
In 1984 John McGregor took on the position of Principal Trumpet of the East York Symphony Orchestra, now known as Orchestra Toronto. Shortly afterwards he took on the positions of Stage Manager and Librarian and for ten years was Personnel Manager. He studied music at the University of Toronto and Education at the University of Western Ontario.
John is a lead trumpet for North York Concert Orchestra, Band of the Royal Regiment of Canada, and 7th Toronto Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery. He has been associate principal trumpet for the Kindred Spirits Orchestra, and is called upon to play lead or solo trumpet for many jazz bands and has played with other groups such as the CNE Mardi Gras Band, Mississauga Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Sinfonietta and York Chamber Ensemble, York Symphony Orchestra, along with others. He has performed coast to coast in Canada, USA, and Europe. He also performs as soloist and a brass ensemble leader throughout the Toronto area. From 1988 until 1998 John was also a baritone singer in the Amadeus Choir and the Bell’Arte Singers.
He has studied trumpet with such people as Vincent Cichowicz, Charles MacKinnon, and James Spragg. He was Music Director for the Agincourt Music Theatre. Most recently John retired as a full time music teacher with the TDSB after 32 years of teaching. He now takes on some Occasional teaching as well as private teaching along with many other music projects.
