Orchestra Toronto Unleashes its Power with its Forces of Nature Season Finale

Orchestra will feature one of the most powerful works by Gustav Mahler, Symphony No. 6 “Tragic”

Toronto, Ontario – May 11, 2024 – Orchestra Toronto is thrilled to be presenting its Forces of Nature concert as its season concludes on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 8:00pm in the George Weston Recital Hall at the Meridian Arts Centre. The program will feature a monumental piece of music, Mahler’s Symphony No. 6 “Tragic” with an expanded 100+-piece orchestra.

Composed in 1905 and nicknamed “Tragic”, Mahler’s Sixth Symphony has been considered his most personal, capturing every possible emotion and reflecting on the world around him, along with the uncontrollable forces that shape our lives. Described as a heroic journey through the mountains and natural world, the piece explores the full spectrum of the human experience from elation to despair. Mahler’s personal touch is evident in every note of this deeply emotional piece, leaving audiences feeling strengthened.

“Regardless of our background, the human experience and emotions we feel unite and connect us all. Mahler’s expression in the Sixth Symphony is something to be experienced and we are so proud to have been able to welcome fantastic new musicians and bring this emotional journey to our audience,” said Michael Newnham, Music Director of Orchestra Toronto. “Our season finale is sure to be an unforgettable evening of music that will leave you feeling inspired and in awe of the immense power of nature.”
