Orchestra Toronto Announces Season 2021-2022 Opening Performance

Season Launches with Reformation! on October 24, 2021 at 3:00p.m.

Toronto, Ontario – October 6, 2021 – Orchestra Toronto is excited to announce its first performance in more than 18 months.  The orchestra will open its 2021-2022 season on October 24, 2021 at the George Weston Recital Hall with Reformation! The concert will feature the overture to Gioacchino Rossini’s “L’italiana in Algeri”, Ottorino Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances, Set 1 and Felix Mendelssohn’s Reformation Symphony.

“Our 2021-2022 season is focused on the power of music to re-connect and restore,” said Michael Newnham, Music Director of Orchestra Toronto. “Mendelssohn’s Reformation Symphony is about the triumph of beliefs, positivity and hope for the future. After a year and a half of not being able to share the gift of music with each other in person, this message speaks directly to all of us as we celebrate our return to live performance. As an orchestra, we are all so thrilled to be able to play together again and, even more, to welcome the audience back.”

As keen as the members are to be playing together, the health and safety of the performers and the community are of the utmost importance. To that end, Orchestra Toronto is working closely with its partners at TOLive to make the concert experience as safe and enjoyable as possible for all involved. Orchestra Toronto bases its protocol and practices on the best, most current research available. As recommendations change, Orchestra Toronto will adjust as required.  Please visit the website for the most current COVID-19 protocols that will be in place.

Due to public health restrictions, tickets are limited.  Further information on the concert and ticket sales for the first concert, as well as the full 2021-2022 Season, can be found on Orchestra Toronto’s re-launched website ( In addition to the website, music lovers of all generations can interact with and hear Orchestra Toronto on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube  and Instagram.
