Cristina Sewerin (p)
Cristina Sewerin, B.Mus (perf), MLS, is excited to rejoin Orchestra Toronto starting the 2022/2023 season. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina by way of BC, Cris studied oboe & english horn performance at University of British Columbia, and is an alumna of the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Orchestral Training Program as well as the Banff School of the Arts chamber music program. She has studied with Jerry Domer (CBC Orchestra), Roger Cole (Vancouver Symphony) and Richard Dorsey (Toronto Symphony) as well as Shelley Heron (Detroit Symphony) and Keith Atkinson (Toronto Symphony).
Along with her role as Co-Principal Oboe with OT, she is Principal Oboe at Etobicoke Philharmonic as well as alternate Principal Oboe with Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra. Cris has soloed with Etobicoke Philharmonic, Oakville Chamber Orchestra and other groups on concerti by Bach, Mozart, Vaughan Williams and Francaix. She has been an active freelancer, playing with orchestras ranging from Vancouver Symphony and Vancouver Opera to Niagara and North Bay.
Outside of music, Cris holds a Masters of Library Science degree and worked in academic librarianship for over 30 years, primarily in engineering and the physical sciences. Before her recent retirement she was the Coordinator of Science Collections at University of Toronto Libraries.
