Orchestra Toronto is Toronto’s oldest and best-loved community orchestra, comprising 80 community musicians under the baton of Maestro Kevin Mallon.
Essential Opera brings together talented singers to perform operatic works at their most essential: great singing, great works, and nothing extra.
On April 22, 2018, as part of its five-concert season, Orchestra Toronto will partner with Essential Opera to present “A Night at the Opera,”: Orchestra Toronto’s first-ever performance of a full-length opera, Gianni Schicchi, in concert.
“This performance represents an exciting step into new Classical repertoire for this Orchestra” said Orchestra Toronto’s Music Director Kevin Mallon, “I am delighted to be presenting it with the crack singers of Essential Opera. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do together.”
Essential Opera is thrilled to join Orchestra Toronto in this terrific venue to present Puccini’s hilarious classic. Its stunning music takes our breath away! Our production features soprano Maureen Batt as Lauretta, singing the famous aria “O mio babbino caro,” and baritone JP Décosse in the title role of Gianni Schicchi. The cast also includes returning EO favourites Erin Bardua and Beth Hagerman, sopranos, and mezzo-soprano Catharin Carew.
