Call for volunteers!

We need help getting our new performance space ready!

Clean-up Day: Friday, Oct. 9, 1:00-2:30, Hope United Church

Please wear a mask.

We will be moving objects out of the balcony in the sanctuary at Hope United, under the direction of church staff. If you are comfortable lifting, schlepping, and climbing stairs, in a dusty environment, we would love your help. The space is large, so physical distancing should be do-able.

We will be setting up barriers for winds and brass, chairs and stands for the orchestra, lighting, sound, and front-of-house.

Concert Assistance: Sunday Oct. 25, Hope United Church

We will need several volunteers in front-of-house and backstage for our two performances on Sunday, Oct. 25

Front of House: 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; 3:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

You will be the first people audience members encounter when they arrive at the church. Tasks may include:

  • Greeting patrons and checking their names off a guest list
  • Seating patrons
  • Providing information to patrons about the venue (where washrooms are, where to put coats, etc.)
  • Helping patrons leave the venue in an orderly manner
  • Selling tickets at the door
  • Wiping down high-touch surfaces

You need to be comfortable interacting with the public and moving around the concert venue. This may include climbing stairs—if you are not comfortable climbing stairs, please let us know ahead of time so we can accommodate you.

Please wear all black, comfortable footwear, and a mask.

Front-of-house volunteers will be able to hear the concert, but will be separated from the audience by a glass wall during the concert.

Concert Set-Up: 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.

You will be setting up the venue for the concert, including placing stands and chairs, moving equipment, posting signs, labelling seating, and setting up lights and sound. You may have to climb stairs and carry heavy things.

Please wear a mask.

Stage Hands: 11:00 a.m.—5:30 p.m.

You will be moving equipment as needed during the performances. You must be able to follow a performance run-down, move comfortably on stage, and lift and carry objects.

Please wear a mask, black clothing, and comfortable footwear.

Strike & Cleanup: 5:30 p.m.—7:30 p.m. (or whenever we finish)

You will be helping to return the Sanctuary to normal following the performances. This will include the following activities:

  • packing up and moving all wind and brass enclosures
  • stacking all chairs
  • moving all percussion equipment downstairs
  • wiping down all surfaces
  • taking down any concert-specific signage
  • striking all A/V equipment
  • everything else we need to do to return the Sanctuary to its pre-concert state and clear away all OT material.

Please wear a mask and comfortable footwear. You will be asked to lift, carry, and climb stairs.
