<p><strong>Daniel Hass</strong>, 14, of Toronto, who studies with David Hetherington at the Young Artists Performance Academy of the Royal Conservatory of Music, has won the 2012  concerto competition. He performed Antonin Dvorák’s Concerto for violoncello and orchestra in B minor.</p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;">The competition prize — presented in memory of <strong>Marta Hidy</strong></span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;">, one of Canada’s foremost violinists —</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;"> is a scholarship of $1,000 and an opportunity to perform </span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;">as a soloist </span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;">with Orchestra Toronto at its popular youth-oriented concert next December in the 1,032-seat George Weston Recital Hall at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;"> Season sponsor for Orchestra Toronto’s 2011-12 series of five concerts is TD Canada Trust. Orchestra Toronto is also supported this season by Bank of Montreal, Clairvest, Dell Property Management, KPMG, Long &amp; McQuade Musical Instruments, Miller Thomson Lawyers, RBC Foundation, Steve Jackson Pianos Ltd., Tridel Enterprises, True North Imaging, Wilson Vukelich LLP and Yamaha Canada Music Ltd.</span></p>
